DEAR YOU: WRITING LETTERS FROM THE HEART

Tired of doom-scrolling and disconnect? Ready to resist the zombification of AI and the outsourcing of emotions? In this creative writing workshop, we'll explore the power of handwritten letters to slow down and drop deeper into our connections with self and others. We'll use guided prompts and writing exercises to encourage heartfelt communication, whether to someone real, imagined, or even to your future self. You will leave with at least a draft of a meaningful, handwritten letter and the inspiration (and materials, including envelopes, stationary, and USPS stamps) to send your personal letter in the mail. We'll look at real-life examples of the epistolary form as a literary art and we'll also talk about the history & culture of mail art. Be a part of the letter-writing revival!

CREATIVE NONFICTION INTENSIVE SEMINAR

Great journalism and nonfiction writing is about more than just uncovering facts—it’s about weaving them into compelling narratives that captivate and inspire action. This intensive, week-long seminar will bring together five investigative journalists and five anthropologists to sharpen their storytelling skills, refine their long-form narrative writing, and explore innovative ways to communicate complex truths to public readers.

Led by award-winning journalists, expert editors, and master storytellers, this program will offer an unparalleled opportunity to bridge disciplines, drawing on anthropology’s deep ethnographic traditions and investigative journalism’s fearless pursuit of truth.
